Portfolio

Image
Here is my final portfolio! This project probably took me around 8 hours to complete, just because I kept changing the layout and could never really decide on how I wanted it to look. Overall, I am very pleased with how it turned out.

BW to Color

Image
I really enjoyed working on this project. I incorporated some of my favorite colors; lots of shades of pink, oranges, and greens. I really liked how the different colors gave me different looks. My favorite part of this project was coloring my hair. I love to dye my hair so it was kind of fun to see what all these colors did to my hair.

Business Cards!

Image
Here are my finished business card designs! I really enjoyed this project and had a lot of fun designing my business cards. My favorite design would have to be the yellow card. For this project I played with a lot of different color scheme and designs and took a lot of inspiration from business cards I found online. Ultimately, I really liked working in InDesign and I'm very satisfied with how these cards turned out.

Puppet Edit

Image
This is my toy edit. I took my inspiration from Tim Burton movies and Coraline, hence the button eyes. I used a lot of different layer masks to create the cracked, pale porcelain look. I also placed myself in the background of a puppet show. I attempted to use the puppet warp to move my hand in a more puppetish way, but I just couldn't get it to look smooth. Overall, I had a lot of fun working on this project.

Refine Edge Tool

Here is my example of using the refine edge tool.

Photoshop Brush

Image
Here is my tag brush for photoshop! I decided on this color because orange is on of my favorite colors. Overall I enjoyed making the tag brush and am happy I learned how create custom photoshop brushes.

Illustrator Portrait!

Image
For my illustrator portrait, I took a lot of inspiration from the artist Shepard Fairey. I really enjoyed the bright colors of Fairey's works and I also really liked how he sort of had different shapes of color on his portrait's faces. I tried to recreate those on mine and they didn't come out as clean as I'd like them,  but I still like the sort of depth it gives my work. All in all, I think this has been my favorite project we've done in class so far

Gradient Mesh

Image
For my gradient mesh project, I decided to use my water bottle. I actually had a lot of fun with this project and it came out A LOT better than what I was expecting. I used about 6 different gradient meshes to complete this project.

Colored Logos!

Image
Here are the colored versions of my logos. My original colored logo is the orange and red one. I chose those colors because the color orange is often associated with being confident and warm, while the color red is associated with being bold. I wanted my logo to convey a sense of confidance and openness so I decided to go with warm colors.

Calligram

Image
For my calligram, I used the lyrics from the song Coffeeshop Soundtrack by All Time Low to create the image of a coffee cup. It took me a fairly long time to create this as I struggled a lot with working in illustrator.

HTML 5 Canvas Tutorials

Here are the HTML 5 canvas tutorials I found the most helpful: https://www.html5canvastutorials.com/tutorials/html5-canvas-shape-fill/ - This one helped me get a better grasp on how to code lines https://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_canvas.asp - We might have looked at this one in class  but it helped me understand coding as a whole a little better https://html5tutorial.info/html5-canvas-rect.php - This tutorial helped me with coding the square.

About Me!

My name is Mia Hayes, I'm 19 years old, I'm from Naples Florida and at the moment, my major is new media. I'm a transfer student to UT, so I guess I'm kind of like a freshman. Art has always been an important, and constant aspect of my life(I even work at an art museum back home), so I'm very excited to learn these softwares and work on these projects. I've always been more of a traditional artist, never really delving in to the world of digital art, so I'm super stoked to learn how to use these  programs to create new works- especially the animation project. My main mediums are digital photography, graphite, and ink - but I've sort of dabbled in all realms of art. I've taken some courses at the Ringling College of Art and Design that were focused a lot on creating art and animations in photoshop so I feel like I have a bit of an understanding as to what we'll be creating in this class. From this class, I expect to learn how to use various sof
